What is a Foot Care Nurse?
Nursing foot care is a foot care service provided by a nurse who has graduated from a recognized nursing program, who holds a current active practicing license with the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals. The nurse has taken further education and completed the course to be able to provide foot care. The foot care nurse follows infection control protocols with his/her tools.

Services
Foot Care Services
- Thorough foot assessment on your initial visit
- Footwear review
- Mobility review
- Assess toenails, skin and circulation of the feet
- Trim, file and clean toenails
- Reduce thick nails (if needed)
- Foot care education
- Foot care visits can take approximately up to 1 hour
- Foot care should be done every 6 to 8 weeks to ensure no new complications arise

- Pain when walking
- Pain to the nail fold
- Red nail folds
- Toe and/or nail feels hotter than other areas of the foot
- Possible drainage from the area (ex. Pus)
Note: If there is any drainage of pus present, the infection must be cleared first before application.

OnyFix Treatment
Onyfix uses a hardened or soft composite that is cured by a LED light and acts like a brace on the nail.
This ensures that the nail remains in the correct shape as it grows from the base of the nail until the end.
The Onyfix will grow with the toenail and help the toenail grow in the correct position.
Before application:
- Remove all nail polish, shellac and artificial nails.
After application:
- Avoid wearing tight fitting shoes such as pointed shoes, skates or cleats.
- Nail polish can still be applied however, patients cannot use shellac or other acrylics on the toenails with Onyfix.
Note: The Composite is made up of Methylacrylate resin. If you have an allergy to this, Onyfix will not be suitable for you.

NOT Suitable for:
- Toenail that's detached from the nail bed.
- Toenail fungal infection involving more than 50% of the total nail area
- Presence of nail bruising or malignant nail disorders
Cancellation
Cancellation / No ShowPolicy
Client's can cancel their appointment 24 hours prior to their scheduled appointment without any fees.
Clients who cancel less than 24 hours to their appointment, may still cancel however, the total fee of their appointment will be charged to the card on file.
Clients who do not show up for their scheduled appointment will be charged the full price of their missed appointments to the card on file.

Nursing foot care FAQ
Q. How is payment accepted?
A. Accepted forms of payment are Cash, Debit, Credit Card, Cheque, and E-transfer.
* Note: Debit, Visa & Mastercard are accepted through Square reader.
Q. Can I claim Nursing Foot Care through my extended health benefits?
A. Yes. Clients will receive a receipt at the end of the visit with the total amount paid for the service for which they can then submit a claim to their insurance company.
(* Note: Some extended health plans cover nursing foot care. Please contact your insurance provider in advance for more details.)
Q. Is Nursing foot care recognized by the CRA?
A. Yes. The Canada Revenue Agency recognizes this service as a medical expense. The client can keep their receipts and claim for it on their taxes.
Q. What cities do you work in?
A. At this time, Franny's Foot Care is providing service to the City of Vancouver and UBC area ONLY.
Q. How far in advance can appointments be cancelled?
A. Appointments can be cancelled up to 24 hours prior to the appointment. This is to allow another client in need of foot care to be able to take the spot.
Q. How are the tools cleaned?
A. The stainless steel tools are cleaned and sterilized by following BC's Best Practice Guidelines for Cleaning, Disinfection & Sterilization. While the other single-use tools are disposed of after each client.
Q. What is all included in the foot care appointment?
A. In your 30min - 1-hour appointment, a medical history is taken, shoe assessment, mobility assessment, neuropathy assessment (if diabetic), foot care, education, recommendations and tips or referrals.
Q. Do you direct bill to Veteran's Affair?
A. I do not directly bill to Veteran's Affairs. You will need to pay for the service first and then submit your receipt to them.

A. I do not directly submit to ICBC. You will need to pay for the service first and then submit your receipt to them.
